... But I'm Not an Expert

April 2013 Geek Girl Dinner

More women than ever are working in technology, so why are there so few women presenting at conferences and elsewhere? This month's Geek Girl Dinner explores the barriers to participation for women who should be sharing what they know through public speaking, but aren't. Our panel will discuss a variety of these barriers, from "I'm not an expert" to "I don't know how to submit a CFP" as well as ways to overcome these challenges. Join active tech speakers Wren Lanier and Kim Mahan for an interactive discussion about why you should be speaking in public and how to get started.

Although the percentages of women working in technology is growing, the majority of presenters at any given event is predominantly male. This is changing as event planners actively recruit women and minority speakers, choose from anonymous submissions, and tout the positive results -- in this case 50% female presenters at an game developer conference.

This recent article from .net magazine reports on a new website to help women to raise their voice in public and share what they know.
